WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a longtime member of the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus, has once again received a perfect 100 percent on the Humane World Action Fund and Humane World for Animals Scorecard, previously known as the scorecard of the Humane Society Legislative Fund and the Humane Society of the United States. He has consistently received the highest score on humane treatment of animals issues dating to his time in the Tennessee State Senate.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will receive two grants totaling $1,389,167 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for research on engineering high-fidelity regulator T-cells and defining their sustainability. The work is under the direction of Dr. Yongqiang Feng of the Department of Immunology.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today announced that Regional One Health will receive a grant of $499,996 from the U.S. Department of Justice for its Rx for Change comprehensive support services program for crime victims of gun violence and other violent behaviors.

All of the appropriations bills considered today passed the House.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today introduced the Clean Cloud Act, legislation to establish emission standards for electricity used by high-demand energy users such as cryptominers and data centers. The measure has seven original cosponsors. The companion bill was introduced by Senators Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), and Senator John Fetterman (D-PA).

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today wrote to Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin seeking the reversal of a proposal to rescind the 2008 Endangerment Finding acknowledging climate change has an impact on human health and safety.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a grant of $399,076 to study repurposing FDA-approved drugs to target chronic alcohol tolerance from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. The project is under the direction of Assistant Professor Dr. Chang Hoon Jee.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will receive a grant of $830,254 for research into sickle cell disease from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute under the direction of Dr. Mitchell J. Weiss. St. Jude also received a $277,500 grant in August to study the disease.
