Congressman Cohen Leads Letter Condemning Acting Navy Secretary’s Dismissal of Captain Crozier of the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt

April 7, 2020

MEMPHIS -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) led a letter to Secretary of Defense Mark Esper condemning the dismissal of Captain Crozier, commander of the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt and calling for Captain Crozier's restoration of command.

The letter reads in part:

"The dismissal of Captain Crozier sends a chilling message to other commanding officers, if they take actions to protect their people. It is frightening to think that this chilling effect might unnecessarily cost the lives of servicemembers.

"The President has said that in essence we are at war. Actions that are taken at wartime are not always by the book. General Patton wasn't always by the book such as when he slapped soldiers under his command suffering from battle fatigue."
