Congressman Cohen’s Statement on Sunday’s ICE Raid on Macon Road
WASHINGTON -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), who has raised his strong opposition to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) being in Memphis on the House floor, in House Judiciary committee proceedings and in letters urging the immediate removal of ICE, made the following statement after hearing about an ICE raid at a bar on Macon Road in Memphis:
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: we don’t have an immigration problem in Memphis and ICE’s presence in our streets is doing more harm than good. The people detained – for whatever reason – are our neighbors. The harshly negative reaction to Sunday’s ICE raid reflects our community’s assessment that ICE needs to leave Memphis. Governor Lee needs a job when his term ends so he is acting with immigration like he did with redistricting, helping Trump.”
