July 27, 2015

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Anna Lewis Matson recently joined the staff of Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) as an intern in the Congressman’s Capitol Hill office. During her June through August internship, Ms. Matson will work closely with Congressman Cohen’s legislative team and assist in other official duties such as responding to constituent requests, conducting legislative research, attending hearings as well as briefings, and providing tours of the Capitol to Shelby County citizens visiting Washington.

“Congressman Cohen has been a strong advocate for increased access to healthcare in Memphis and throughout the country, which is an issue I care deeply about,”Ms. Matson said.“It was an easy decision to join his team on Capitol Hill so I could learn about the legislative process first-hand and gain experience in a field in which I hope to work in the future. I am very grateful for this opportunity to give back to Memphis.”

Each year, approximately a dozen interns serve the citizens of the Ninth District in the Congressman’s Capitol Hill office. During her time in Washington, Ms. Matson will experience the legislative process as well as the inner workings of the federal government firsthand, and she will gain valuable research and other skills that will make her more competitive in the job market.

“Anna is eager to help the people of the Ninth District and learn about the work we do in Washington,” Congressman Cohen said. “This opportunity gives talented young adults like Anna the chance to make an impact through public service.”

Anna Lewis Matson has lived in the Memphis area for over ten years and will attend the University of South Carolina in the fall to begin her studies for a Master’s of Health Administration. Ms. Matson graduated from Tulane University with a B.S. in Public Health and Classical Studies in May.
