Cohen Announces $541,000 for New Memphis Health Center Access Point in Whitehaven

August 20, 2015

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced $541,667 in federal funding to help the Memphis Health Center open a new access point in the Whitehaven community. The new access point will provide the same health care services that Shelby County citizens have come to expect of the Memphis Health Center’s other locations. This grant funding comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration.

“I’m pleased to announce this investment of federal funds to help the Memphis Health Center reduce health inequalities and disparities by opening a new access point for their health care services in the Whitehaven community,” said Congressman Cohen.

The Memphis Health Center, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)3 community health center, provides a comprehensive array of primary and preventive health and dental services to the uninsured/underinsured and medically underserved populations of Memphis, Shelby and Fayette Counties. It was founded more than 45 years ago to address concerns over health care access disparities for underserved populations in the Mid-South area.

Today, the Memphis Health Center aims to improve community health and well-being for the citizens of Shelby and Fayette counties through an integrated program of comprehensive, culturally sensitive, quality health care services under a primary care delivery model emphasizing preventive care across the entire life cycle (i.e. prenatal, perinatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric).
