Cohen Announces Gang and Gun Crime Reduction Funding

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced $148,885 in federal funding for violent gang and gun violence reduction efforts in Memphis. This funding comes through the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, which facilitates collaborative efforts between local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and other community members to implement initiatives aimed at gang violence and gun crime reduction, prevention and intervention.

“I am pleased to announce this funding which will help make Memphis safer, reduce gun crime, and prevent gang violence,” said Congressman Cohen.

In recent weeks, the DOJ has also awarded more than $1 million in funding to Memphis area organizations and municipal governments, including $352,416 for transitional housing programs at Agape Child & Family Services and $838,332 in funding Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program funding for Shelby County, which will support a broad range of activities and law enforcement initiatives.
