Cohen Hosts More Than 150 Constituents at Annual District Issues Meeting

January 16, 2015

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today hosted his annual District Issues Meeting for Ninth District constituents, welcoming more than 150 Memphians to the Clifford Davis/Odell Horton Federal Building to discuss issues affecting the city and the Mid-South. This meeting, like his regular local events and telephone town hall meetings, offered the citizens of the Ninth District an opportunity for direct dialogue with the Congressman about the issues that matter most to them. Photos from this morning’s meeting are available here.

“Hearing what my constituents have to say about the issues is critically important to effectively serving the citizens of the Ninth District,” said Congressman Cohen. “I was pleased with today’s opportunity for direct, face-to-face dialogue with so many Memphians. We discussed a number of issues, including what I hope Congress can accomplish in the coming year, how to strengthen the middle class by raising the minimum wage, the continuing fight for civil rights and to prevent excessive police force, and how we can take advantage of the Affordable Care Act’s many benefits.”

The Congressman continued: “Many at this morning’s meeting were in need of jobs, and we know how important good-paying jobs are to the Ninth District, while others had constituent issues regarding veterans benefits, minority contractors, and other issues. They were put in touch with members of my staff who will try to resolve those issues. Listening to what the citizens of the Ninth District think about these important issues as well as others helps me better represent them in Congress.”
