Cohen: New Federal Grant Aims to Create 50 Jobs, Save 30 More

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced a new Economic Development Agency (EDA) grant for Southwest Tennessee Community College aimed at creating 52 new jobs and saving 33 more. The EDA is a part of the U.S Department of Commerce.

“This significant infusion of federal funding will help Southwest Tennessee Community College create and save good-paying jobs while preparing Memphians with the skills they need to enter our modern workforce,” said Congressman Cohen. “I am pleased to announce this grant aimed at improving the Memphis economy and creating jobs in our city.”

The $904,588 in federal funds will support the construction of a new two-story business and industry facility that will help the college meet regional industry demand for entry level skills in several advances manufacturing and industrial sectors.

EDA grants are awarded through a competitive process based upon the application’s merit, the applicant’s eligibility, and the availability of funds.
