Cohen Reacts to Republicans Suing President Obama
[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) released the following statement today after learning that House Republicans filed suit against the President for his implementation of the Affordable Care Act:
“After doing everything they can—including 50 repeal votes that went nowhere—to strip the American people of the Affordable Care Act’s benefits and consumer protections, turning around and suing the President of the United States for not implementing the law effectively enough doesn’t even pass the laugh test. It is even more bizarre for a party whose main approach has been attacking lawyers for trying to keep our air and water clean and for protecting consumers from substandard medical care and negligent businesses. Suddenly this is the party that believes lawyers are the answer?”
“The appropriate avenue for Congress to address its concerns with the President is—as it has always been—legislating. Congress should be working to raise the minimum wage for low-income workers, pass a transportation bill that will create good-paying jobs rebuilding our nation’s crumbling infrastructure, help keep college affordable for all students, and reform our broken immigration system. This meritless lawsuit will do nothing to help fix our country’s problems.”
