Urging the President to Disband His Voter Fraud Commission
Dear Friend, This week, I urged President Trump to disband his voter fraud commission, sent a letter to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation requesting more information on the scope and impact of the arsenic leak at the TVA plant in Memphis, urged the House Judiciary Committee to reschedule marijuana, met with St. Jude patient Lela Moody, mourned the victims of the KC-130 plane crash in Mississippi, and criticized Donald Trump, Jr.'s meeting with a Russian lawyer on PoliticKING with Larry King. Last week, I criticized President Trump and Russia at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Parliamentary Assembly in Minsk. Tomorrow, I'll be on MSNBC with Richard Lui at 3pm CT to discuss Russia and the Senate Republicans' mean and heartless health care bill. Urging the President to Disband His Voter Fraud Commission Urging the President to Disband His Voter Fraud Commission On Monday, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and I sent a letter to President Trump urging him to immediately disband the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity. In the letter, we expressed serious concerns with the Commission's request for the personal information of voters from states to investigate unsubstantiated claims that millions of people voted illegally in the 2016 presidential election. Requesting More Information About the Arsenic Leak at the TVA Plant in Memphis On Thursday, I sent a letter to the Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation requesting more information about the scope and impact of the arsenic leak in the ground water within wells at the Tennessee Valley Authority's Allen Fossil Plant. Read my letter here. Fighting for More Sensible Drug Policies On Wednesday, at a House Judiciary Committee meeting, I criticized our nation's anachronistic drug laws and urged the Committee to reschedule marijuana. The fact that marijuana is a Schedule 1 drug along with heroin, ecstasy, and acid is ludicrous. Watch my remarks here. Meeting with St. Jude Patient Lela Moody On Thursday, I met with 4-year-old St. Jude patient Lela Moody, her parents Amanda and Charles, and her doctors from St. Jude. I am proud to represent the #1 pediatric cancer hospital in the country that has saved so many young peoples' lives. Criticizing President Trump and Russia at the OSCE PA in Minsk While at the annual Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Parliamentary Assembly last week in Minsk, Belarus, I witnessed the real Russia that votes against human rights, democratic values, free elections, and the territorial integrity of nations, while President Trump saw the fake Russia during his meeting at the G20 Summit in Germany with former KGB agent and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Read more here. Watch my remarks in Minsk here. Mourning the Victims of the KC-130 Airplane Crash in Mississippi I was saddened by the terrible KC-130 plane crash on Monday in Mississippi that took the lives of 15 Marines and 1 Navy corpsman. My thoughts go out to the families and loved ones of the victims. Criticizing Donald Trump, Jr.'s For His Meeting with a Russian Lawyer On Tuesday, Donald Trump, Jr. released an email chain, that he reportedly knew was going to be released by the New York Times, between him and Rob Goldstone about "Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump" and information from the Russian government that "would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to [Donald Trump]." These emails provide damning information that shows intent, if not actual collusion with the Russians. Read more here. You can watch my interview with Larry King on this topic here. Each week, I share a health tip in the hopes of promoting a healthy lifestyle for residents of the Ninth Congressional District. As always, it is best to check with your doctor before making any changes to your diet, exercise routine or lifestyle. Vitamin D is a critical nutrient found in some foods needed to maintain strong bones. Vitamin D can also be made organically by the body when the skin is directly exposed to the sun. Don't forget, however, to wear sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays. Read more about the importance of Vitamin D here. As always, I remain. |
