Congressman Cohen Announces More Than $100 Million for 9th District Schools

April 2, 2009

β€œI am proud to bring my Chairman Conyers back to the 9th District,” said Congressman Cohen. β€œIn addition to being one of the finest legislators in the history of the Congress, he has been my mentor in the House of Representatives and I owe a great deal of my early successes to his guidance. I always enjoy bringing him to Memphis because he loves our city and is so revered by so many people in the 9th District. He has been the face of the modern civil rights movement in Congress, and I can think of no one better to commemorate April 4th with us than Chairman Conyers.”

Congressman Conyers is the second-longest serving incumbent Member of Congress, representing all of Highland Park and Hamtramck, as well as large portions of Detroit and Dearborn. He is the only person for whom Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ever actively campaigned, and he has fought tirelessly for equal justice and civil rights in the House of Representatives. A senior statesman in American political life, he is respected and admired by colleagues on both sides of the aisle.
