Congressman Cohen Announces $6.6 Million in Memphis Homelessness Assistance Grants

January 14, 2020

Continuum of care funding for 27 local programs on the front lines

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that 27 local Memphis homelessness assistance programs will be receiving a total of $6.6 million in "continuum of care" grants to serve individuals and families experiencing homelessness from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Last year, there was a 2.7 percent increase in homelessness nationally, with 567,715 people counted as homeless on a single night.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"Homelessness imposes a hardship on individuals that they can't solve by themselves; they need outside help. Without basic resources like a mailing address, a phone number, and reliable transportation, it becomes next to impossible for homeless people to find jobs. These funds will give the Memphis homeless population the chance it needs to get back on its feet and return to safe and productive lives."
