Congressman Cohen Votes Against National Defense Authorization Act

September 23, 2021

Says massive spending is too much after war in Afghanistan is over and domestic needs must be a priority

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) tonight voted against the multi-billion National Defense Authorization Act, which included $25 billion more than the Pentagon itself requested.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"I am always troubled by these massive defense bills, even when they contain some benefit for some of my constituents. We spend more on defense than the next ten countries combined while our children's food and nutrition programs suffer, our preparations for the next pandemic are anemic and our social safety net programs across the board are underfunded. The 20-year war in Afghanistan is over and our country's domestic needs must be a priority."
