Congressman Cohen Votes to Strengthen Health Care and Lower Prescription Drug Costs
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today voted for, and the House passed, H.R. 987, the Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act. The vote was 234 to 183.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“This bill contains the best elements of several ideas aimed at lowering prescription drug prices and strengthening health care by reversing Trump administration sabotage of the Affordable Care Act. We are continuing to work for the people to reinforce protections for people with pre-existing conditions and expand enrollment in quality, affordable coverage for more Americans.”
The bill invests most of the $13.8 billion in savings created by promoting generic drug competition and cracking down on junk insurance plans to fund 500,000 additional enrollees in nongroup coverage and Medicaid.
Today’s vote follows House passage of the Protecting Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions Act and two bipartisan bills addressing prescription drug costs last week.
