Cohen Receives Perfect Score on Clean Energy and Climate Action Scorecard

October 6, 2010

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) was recognized by the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund (SACE Action Fund) for having a perfect voting record on clean energy and climate issues from January 2009 to August 2010.

“Our planet is the most precious resource we have, and it is vital that we do everything in our power to preserve our environment for future generations,” said Congressman Cohen. “If we are going to improve the air we breathe and the water we drink, we must combat the pollution that destroys our lungs and ruins our planet. Our efforts to maintain clean air and water will also enable us to create alternative sources of energy that will reduce our dependence on foreign oil, lower energy costs for American families and small businesses, and establish a clean energy economy that will create green jobs across the country.”

Congressman Cohen is the House sponsor of the 10 Million Solar Roofs Act. This measure establishes a program at the Department of Energy that will provide competitive grants to states and local governments to provide rebates, loans, or other incentives for the purchase and installation of solar energy systems. The goal of this legislation is to install solar energy systems on 10 million businesses and residences across the country by 2021. This legislation will create more than one million direct and indirect jobs as well as lower energy costs, strengthen the economy, and put America on the path to energy independence.

SACE Action Fund is the political arm of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy. SACE Action Fund is a non-partisan, non-profit group striving to make global warming solutions a top priority for elected leaders. SACE Action Fund engages in public education, legislative action, and electoral accountability.

As a legislative watchdog, SACE Action Fund works within the conservation community to identify and highlight important energy and climate change-related legislation and votes in Congress with significant policy implications that will impact our energy choices, clean air and water, and public health.
