Intelligence

In 2025, Congressman Cohen was appointed by Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI), which oversees the United States Intelligence Community, including 18 agencies and departments responsible for safeguarding our nation’s security. This appointment reflects both the trust of his colleagues and his long-standing commitment to protecting the American people through accountability, transparency, and sound intelligence policy.

Within the Committee, he serves on two critical subcommittees:

  • Subcommittee on the National Security Agency & Cyber – This panel oversees U.S. cyber defense capabilities and the work of the National Security Agency (NSA). Their mission is to strengthen the nation’s ability to deter and respond to cyber threats, protect critical infrastructure, and ensure that intelligence activities respect Americans’ privacy and civil liberties.
  • Subcommittee on Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) – This subcommittee focuses on the collection and analysis of publicly available information to support national security, defense, and law enforcement. OSINT plays a growing role in understanding emerging global threats from terrorism and disinformation to technological and geopolitical risks and ensures our intelligence community can adapt to a rapidly changing information environment.

The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence is one of the most selective and consequential committees in Congress. Its work directly shapes U.S. national security policy, counterintelligence strategy, and defense readiness. Serving on HPSCI allows Congressman Cohen to bring Tennessee’s voice to the table in protecting our nation from emerging threats while defending the rights and freedoms that define us.
