Cohen Announces More Than $800,000 for St. Jude and UTHSC
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded research grants totaling $802,489 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC).
“I am proud of the important medical research taking place in Memphis,” said Congressman Cohen. “These significant federal investments will help keep Memphis at the forefront of the medical research community.”
HHS allocates millions of dollars for medical research each year through its various institutes and research centers. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is the recipient of a $460,489 grant from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD). The funds will help support research into the biology behind these disorders.
In addition, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has awarded UTHSC a grant for $342,000. This award is for research into drug abuse and addiction.
