Cohen: CBO Report Underscores GOP’s Failure to Provide an Adequate Health Care Plan

March 13, 2017

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] — Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today released the following statement on the report from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) on the Republican's American Health Care Act that shows 14 million more people would be uninsured by 2018, 24 million more people would be uninsured by 2026 and a $880 billion federal cut to Medicaid by 2026:

"The report released today by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office underscores that the Republican health care bill will result in millions of currently-insured Americans no longer having coverage. This poorly-thought-out legislation takes health care coverage away from lower and middle income Americans while giving massive tax breaks to the wealthy. The 400 richest taxpayers in America will get on average an annual $7 million tax break per person. According to the report, 14 million more people would be uninsured by 2018 and 24 million more people would be uninsured by 2026. In addition, it projects the bill would cut $880 billion from federal Medicaid funding. Republicans should put politics aside and work with Democrats to improve the Affordable Care Act rather than stripping health care coverage from millions of Americans."
