February 25, 2019

Cite allegations about timing of Memphis layoffs

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released a letter to XPO Logistics CEO Bradley Jacobs expressing their concern about the timing of layoffs at the company's Memphis facility amid serious allegations of pregnancy discrimination, sexual harassment and suppression of labor organizing activities at XPO facilities around the country detailed in national news media stories. See the full letter here.

"We are writing to follow-up on concerns raised last year regarding several allegations concerning the treatment of employees at facilities across the United States managed by XPO Logistics," their letter reads. "Following the announced closure of the XPO Memphis warehouse, we are particularly concerned about the timing of the decision and the anticipated layoff of over 400 workers, and request information pertaining to the decision."

The letter lists six questions the Members want answered, including about the company's new pregnancy accommodation policy and about how it plans to help laid off workers.

In December, Representatives Cohen and DeLauro led a letter to the House Committee on Education and the Workforce signed by 95 other members of Congress asking for a Congressional investigation into working conditions at XPO Logistics.
