[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) this morning hosted nearly 900 constituents at his town hall meeting at East High School. An additional 7,800 people viewed the town hall meeting on Facebook Live. Congressman Cohen answered his constituents' questions about the issues facing Tennessee's Ninth Congressional District and the nation. During the town hall meeting, the Congressman discussed a wide variety of topics including the Affordable Care Act, President Donald Trump's immigration ban, education, criminal justice reform, civil rights, Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, environmental issues and more.
"Town hall meetings are a great way for me to hear directly from Memphians and all citizens of the Ninth District about what's important to them," said Congressman Cohen. "I appreciated having this opportunity to listen to the Ninth District's perspective on the issues ranging from the future of the Affordable Care Act to 45's unconstitutional travel ban, as well as other issues facing our community. I would like to thank everyone who took part in the democratic process this morning by attending the town hall meeting and tuning in on Facebook. Hearing the opinions and ideas of my constituents helps me best represent the Ninth District in Congress. This is what democracy looks like!"
The town hall meeting, located at East High School, began at 10 AM CT and lasted roughly three hours. Joining Congressman Cohen at the meeting was Brian Faughnan from the Tennessee Chapter of the ACLU and Chris Coleman from the Tennessee Justice Center.
