Cohen’s Statement on Trump’s Religious Liberty Executive Order

May 4, 2017
Press Release

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] — Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice, today released the following statement regarding President Donald Trump’s Executive Order “Promoting Free Speech and Religious Liberty”:

“It is ironic that President Trump issued an Executive Order purporting to protect religious liberty – an Order that, in fact, does little to actually protect religious freedom -- on a day when the House voted to take away access to quality, affordable health care for potentially millions of Americans.  Tellingly, every religious group that weighed in with Congress about the ‘Trumpcare’ bill strongly opposed it.  Essentially, President Trump is talking religion, not living it.”
