Cohen Urges DOJ to Investigate Eric Trump Foundation’s Fundraising Partially to Benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

June 12, 2017

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice, today sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions urging him to investigate whether any federal laws have been violated in connection with the Eric Trump Foundation's annual charity golf tournament partially for the benefit of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. On June 6, Forbes Magazine posted a story by Dan Alexander online (to appear in the June 29 issue) entitled How Donald Trump Shifted Kids-Cancer Charity Money Into His Business.

"I am seriously concerned about a recent press report concerning an annual charity event hosted by the Eric Trump Foundation for the benefit of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis," said Congressman Cohen in his letter. "The report suggests that donors may have been misled, the event may have been used as a pass through to convert charitable donations to the Donald J. Trump Foundation into revenue for Donald Trump's private businesses, and the event may have been used as a vehicle to profit Donald Trump's private businesses…I urge you to investigate to determine whether federal laws have been violated."
