Congressman Cohen and Staff Begin Teleworking Due to Ongoing Coronavirus Outbreak

March 13, 2020

District and D.C. Offices will be closed through March 20th

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that, after he votes for the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, he will close his Washington, D.C. and District offices to protect his constituents and staff from being exposed to the coronavirus (COVID-19). Congressman Cohen and his staff will work remotely and maintain normal business hours.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"The unprecedented nature of the coronavirus pandemic requires me to close my D.C. and District offices. Limiting exposure will help ensure my staff and I remain healthy and able to serve the people of the Ninth Congressional District. My staff will continue to be available by phone and email. I regret that this crisis requires such drastic action, but out of an abundance of caution, it seems the prudent course.

"Constituents should continue to call my office with their concerns (Washington: (202) 225-3265; Memphis: (901) 544-4131) and email my office via www.Cohen.House.Gov. The website will also be updated regularly with information regarding this crisis, including legislative action Congress is taking to address the pandemic and its effects on our country.

"Visitors to Washington should be aware that the House and Senate Sergeants at Arms have closed the Capitol Visitors Center and, effective 5:00pm on March 12, 2020 until 8:00am April 1, 2020, the Capitol will be closed to all tours, including Member and staff-led tours. The House Office Buildings will only be open to Members, staff and official business visitors. All White House tours have been temporarily suspended effective immediately. No specific dates were given for the suspension of White House tours.

"I continue to urge constituents to follow the guidance of the Center for Disease Control found at Coronavirus.gov."
