Congressman Cohen Announces $1 Million in Department of Health and Human Services Grants

Funding research at St. Jude and University of Tennessee Health Science Center

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive grants totaling $1,005,086 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. St. Jude will receive $544,357 from the National Cancer Institute for research into acute lymphoblastic leukemia. UTHSC will receive $460,729 from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute for research into control of microvascular function by ion channels.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"I am pleased to see these substantial grants that support the important research at our premiere medical research institutions. This funding will support critical work being done at St. Jude and UTHSC while maintaining a medical infrastructure of jobs needed to meet growing needs."
