Congressman Cohen Announces $1.2 Billion in Federal Highway Funding for Tennessee

Apportionments Under Bipartisan Infrastructure Law He Supported
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen, a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today announced that Tennessee will receive $1,264,197,769 through various Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) programs financed through the historic Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) that only he and former Congressman Jim Cooper in Tennessee’s Congressional delegation voted for in 2021.
The funding supports various federal-aid highway formula programs such as the National Highway Performance Program, the Highway Safety Improvement Program, the highway freight program and the new climate mitigation and resilience programs. The funding also distributes $80,654,727 for the state’s bridges and $18,815,036 from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program to build out Tennessee’s electric vehicle infrastructure.
Tennessee received $1,256,554,233 through these programs for the 2023 fiscal year.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“The bipartisan IIJA was one of the best investments in America’s future infrastructure needs we have made, and it has already resulted in major improvements to transportation safety and efficiency. I am proud to have been one of just two members of the Tennessee Congressional delegation to have voted for this transformational legislation. There is no Democratic or Republican way to fill potholes and the whole state is benefiting by these strengthened transportation programs.”
