De-icing project receives additional Airport Improvement Program funding

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation, today announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will invest $13,526,378 in the de-icing facility at Memphis International Airport (MEM) completed in December of 2022 with a dedication ceremony attended by Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

The Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funding for MEM will reimburse costs for the deicing facility and pay for airfield signage and the reconstruction of the apron and a terminal. This fourth round of the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grants, totaling $363 million nationwide, will fund a variety of projects such as planning, airport safety improvements, airport development, and airport noise compatibility grants.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

“The Memphis International Airport is an economic engine for our region and investments in its improvement are critical to our continuing to be a regional transportation crossroads and major international freight hub. This further investment in making MEM reliable during all seasons of the year ensures our success.”
