Congressman Cohen Announces $16.1Million in Housing Grants to Memphis and Shelby County

Includes Community Development Block Grants and funding for homeless shelters

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Memphis will receive $ $14,579,939 and Shelby County will receive $1,603,845 in funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Both Memphis and Shelby County will receive Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding totaling  $6.7 million and $1.1 million respectively and HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) funding totaling $3.7 million and $430,000 respectively. Memphis will also receive an Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) of  $575,820 for homeless shelters and homelessness prevention efforts and a Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) grant of $3.4 million to  provide rental housing assistance for persons living with HIV/AIDS and their families.

“This funding comes at a critical time and supports longstanding programs that strengthen our housing infrastructure and support its residents. I am pleased to see the much-needed homelessness assistance as too many struggle in the ongoing economic crisis. This is money well-invested in our community.”
