Congressman Cohen Announces $16.4 Million in HUD Grants to Memphis and Shelby County
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that the City of Memphis will receive $14,819,865 and Shelby County will receive $1,641,575 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to meet a variety of housing and transportation needs.
The bulk of the funding – more than $7.5 million – is for Community Development Block Grants. Other funding is for the Home Investment Partnerships (HOME) program and for the Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS (HOPWA) program.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“This is certainly a major and welcome investment in our community’s housing infrastructure and will result in improvements in our housing stock. It also helps meet the needs of those who require assistance in meeting both their housing and transportation challenges. This funding will transform lives and strengthen our community.”
