Congressman Cohen Announces $3 Million in Assistance to Firefighters Grants to Memphis

December 1, 2025

Federal Emergency Management Agency funding

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced three Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) to the City of Memphis from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The funding, totaling $3,022,867, is part of FEMA’s nationwide release of Fiscal Year 2024 fire program awards, and will support vehicle acquisition and operations and safety investments for the Memphis Fire Department.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

“I’m pleased to see this FEMA investment in fire safety in Memphis. These grants will help our firefighters secure the equipment, vehicles, and safety tools they need to do their jobs and protect our community. Federal funding like this saves lives, both for the public and for the brave men and women who respond to emergencies every day.”

FEMA began issuing FY24 fire grant awards in September 2025 across its three major programs: Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG), Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER), and Fire Prevention & Safety (FP&S). With the award cycle now complete, Memphis is among the cities receiving AFG funds to strengthen response capabilities, upgrade safety equipment, and improve overall firefighter protection.
