Congressman Cohen Announces Affordable Housing Grant

April 12, 2019

WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded $6,796,656 in grants to Memphis and Shelby County public housing agencies under its Capital Fund program.

"Increasing access to quality, affordable housing is crucial for Memphis and Memphians," said Congressman Cohen. "This new federal funding will help the Memphis Housing Authority modernize its housing and improve the quality of life for many residents."

The Capital Fund program provides federal funds annually via a formula to approximately 3,300 public housing agencies (PHAs) across the country. PHAs may use Capital Fund grants for capital and management activities, including modernization and development of public housing, which helps to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low- and very low-income families.
