Congressman Cohen Announces ALS Grant to St. Jude
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will receive a $634,844 grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke for research on the proteins that cause amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“As a strong supporter of our National Institutes of Health, I’m pleased to see these research dollars being invested in our premiere children’s research institution to study ALS. This crippling disease affects too many people in the prime of life and efforts to understand it and eventually cure it are essential.”
Congressman Cohen is a member of the ALS Caucus and was a cosponsor of the Accelerating Access to Critical Therapies (ACT) for ALS Act in the last Congress, which would provide grants for investigational therapies and the development of treatments and cures for the disease.
