Congressman Cohen Announces COVID-19-Related Mental Health Research Grant to UTHSC

NIH grant of $284,772
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a grant of $284,772 from the National Institute of Mental Health for a project titled “the neuroimmune mechanism of SARS-CoV-2 on synaptic transmission and plasticity” under the direction of Dr. Jianyang Du.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“I commend the University and Dr. Du for this important work to understand the mental health implications of the COVID-19 pandemic. This complex and mystifying disease is still not well understood, so this research will add to our knowledge and insights as we address lasting impacts of the COVID-19 virus and anticipate future pandemics.”
