Congressman Cohen Announces DOT Grants to University of Memphis and Shelby County Government
More than $3.7 million in support for post-crash safety and highway-rail crossings projects
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Memphis will receive a federal Department of Transportation (DOT) grant of $3,113,175 to develop a Post-Crash Care Safety Action Plan and conduct demonstration activities at its Millington campus evaluating trauma care, dispatch, traffic accident management and incident command performance. Shelby County Government will receive a DOT grant of $640,000 to review and evaluate alternatives for three high-priority highway-rail crossings and look at the safety of 23 others.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“These investments in traffic safety will ultimately save lives. Better handling of traffic accidents and the use of best practices will pay dividends well into the future. An evaluation of our many road-railroad crossings should result in fewer dangerous situations.”
