Congressman Cohen Announces Environmental Research Grant to the University of Memphis
WASHINGTON -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Memphis will receive a $433,349 grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences for a project entitled “Effect of ambient heat on chronic kidney disease and end-stage kidney disease among U.S. veterans” under the direction of School of Public Health Assistant Professor Abu Mohammed Naser Titu.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“Kidney disease is particularly prevalent in the Mid-South region. With the effects of climate change causing more severe weather, this research on the effect of heat on veterans with kidney disease is both timely and important. I congratulate Professor Titu and the University on this research grant.”
