Chickasaw Electric Cooperative seriously damaged by tornadoes and straight-line winds

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the State of Tennessee will receive a grant of $1,273,374 for the restoration of the electrical power, transmissions, and distribution facilities of the Chickasaw Electric Cooperative from the June 25-26, 2023, storms in which parts of Shelby, Tipton and Fayette counties saw serious damage. The funding is from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The figure represents 75 percent of the $1,698,374 cost of the damage. Repairs and restoration included removing and replacing 115 wooden poles and associated components, 52 transformers, and associated debris removal.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

“The June 2023 storms did serious damage to our region which is why I immediately sought federal assistance. This funding reimburses the electric cooperative for the expenses it incurred and does so in a timely manner.”
