WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the Memphis Housing Authority will receive 190 housing vouchers from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to prevent homelessness. The voucher funding comes from the American Rescue Plan President Biden signed into law in March.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"The pandemic knocked many families off their feet and made them anxious about how they'd pay the rent. The American Rescue Plan provides vouchers to eligible families in addition to the funds for emergency homelessness assistance announced last month. We are doing all we can to keep people in their homes, and I'm proud to have supported the legislation whose benefits in Memphis and across the country are now clearly visible."

In April, Congressman Cohen announced $15.1 million in grants to Memphis and Shelby County to prevent homelessness. Earlier this month, he announced $22.3 million in emergency rental assistance to Memphis and Shelby County.
