Congressman Cohen Announces Rural Development Grant to Combat Sickle Cell Disease in the Delta Region

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a Rural Development grant of $364,502 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for technical assistance and training to combat sickle cell disease in the Delta region, and to improve communication between health care professionals.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

“Sickle cell disease affects a disproportionate number of people in the Mid-South. Training medical professionals in the best therapies will ease pain and ultimately save lives.”
