MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will receive a grant of $1,147,312 for emergency protective measures related to COVID-19 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). In response to the ongoing pandemic, St. Jude has had to take extra precautions since all its patients are considered high-risk due to underlying health conditions or treatments which cause immune system compromise. As part of the extra precautions, the hospital had to purchase over 2 million additional disposable masks and disinfectant supplies, among other things.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

“I’m pleased to announce this funding for emergency life-saving protective measures for the staff and patients of St. Jude. Their safety is essential as the children continue to recover and as doctors and scientists continue to search for cures and therapies to extend and improve the lives of sick children.”
