Congressman Cohen Announces Two Department of Health and Human Services Grants
Funding for alcohol-use study at the University of Memphis and nurse training at the UTHSC
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a $500,000 grant for nursing education and retention training from the Health Resources and Services Administration. Congressman Cohen also announced that the University of Memphis will receive $180,500 for “A Qualitative Analysis of Social and Behavioral Processes Associated with Self-Change in Drinking in an Existing Cohort of Black and White Emerging Adults” from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“Training and retaining skilled nurses are essential to quality health care and I’m pleased to see this substantial investment. Understanding how to change behaviors around potential alcohol abuse is a good focus and is sure to yield useful insights.”
