Congressman Cohen Applauds Advance of $13.7 Million in Community Projects for Tennessee’s 9th Congressional District

$2 million for Operation Home for Heroes, $1 million for Northside High Revitalization
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that nine of his Community Projects, valued at $13,102,000, have been approved for funding by the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee. This is a major hurdle for projects Congressman Cohen asked for in this year’s 2024 Fiscal Year appropriations process and is subject to possible revision as the negotiation process moves forward for a final FY 2024 budget.
The money will go for Operation Homes for Heroes housing for homeless and disabled veterans, for revitalization of Northside High School, pedestrian-friendly improvements to Overton Park, and construction of a new Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) operations and maintenance facility, among other projects. (See full list below.)
A 10th project, for the Shelby County Emergency Management Center, at $637,195, was approved by the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“I am working hard to bring federal dollars to the 9th Congressional District. I applaud the work of the appropriators in making these significant investments in our community.”
