Memphis one of 15 cities committing to use American Rescue Plan funding to prevent violence

WASHINGTON – Congress Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today applauded the approach being taken by the Biden-Harris Administration to address gun violence. The strategy implements preventative measures that are proven to reduce violent crime, and tackles the root causes – including by addressing the flow of firearms used to commit crimes. Memphis is one of 15 communities the administration identified that will use new American Rescue Plan funding to invest in proven community violence intervention programs.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"My constituents and Americans across the country are understandably concerned about the spike in gun violence we have seen in the past 18 months. The Biden-Harris strategy will scale up proven gun violence prevention approaches and use the significant funding made available in the American Rescue Plan to ensure they have the resources needed for success. I commend the City of Memphis for committing to use its Rescue Plan funding to tackle this problem."
