Congressman Cohen Applauds President Biden’s Declaration of Major Disaster for Tennessee after December Storm

Shelby County affected by intense ice storm and its aftermath
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today applauded President Biden’s decision to declare a major disaster for the state of Tennessee, including Shelby County, for the storm that ravaged the region from December 22 to 27 last year. Congressman Cohen wrote to Governor Bill Lee twice, on December 29 and January 6, urging him to seek a federal disaster declaration after damages were confirmed to likely exceed the minimum threshold.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“The late-December storm did significant damage to our city from MLGW infrastructure, including power lines, to a dorm at Christian Brothers University to the Shelby County Health Department, and more. This storm disrupted lives and the local economy for days. I appreciate President Biden’s recognition of the disaster as the declaration makes available needed federal resources and will help in returning affected areas to normal.”
