Congressman Cohen Applauds Senate Passage of His Bill Naming Memphis VA Medical Center for Luke Weathers Jr.

Measure will be sent to the President to be signed into law
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today applauded the U.S. Senate’s passage Tuesday night of his bill naming the Memphis VA Medical Center for the late World War II combat pilot Lieutenant Colonel Luke Weathers Jr. The measure now goes to President Biden to be signed into law.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“I am pleased the Senate has passed my measure naming the Memphis VA Medical Center for the heroic Memphis fighter pilot Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, a decorated U.S. Army Air Corps pilot, member of the Tuskegee Airmen’s “Red Tails,” the first Black air traffic control officer in Memphis, and a mentor to many in the community. I look forward to President Biden signing the bill into law and to a dedication ceremony in Memphis in the months ahead.”
Congressman Cohen attended Lieutenant Colonel Weathers’ funeral in Memphis and his internment at Arlington National Cemetery. Congressman Cohen arranged for the installation of a plaque recognizing Weathers’ achievements at Memphis International Airport.
Congressman Cohen’s bill naming the VA Medical Center for Mr. Weathers passed the House of Representatives in November.
