Congressman Cohen Applauds Unanimous Supreme Court Ruling on Mifepristone
Procedural issue permits continued access to abortion medication
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today applauded the unanimous ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court that keeps access to the widely used abortion medication mifepristone legal. The court ruled that the challenging antiabortion doctors did not have standing to pursue the case.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“While today’s ruling keeps access to mifepristone intact, the damage done by the High Court in overturning Roe v. Wade in 2022 continues. Courts and legislatures across the country continue their assault on women’s reproductive rights and we must continue our work to enshrine those rights permanently in law.
“This unanimous ruling also reiterates an important constitutional principle of standing. The Courts are forums to resolve disputes between the particular parties before them, not vehicles for unaccountable, after-the-fact policymaking. Now the Courts need to stick to it.”
