Congressman Cohen Applauds White House Announcement Nominating Andre B. Mathis to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit

Memphis attorney considered for federal appellate court

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today applauded the Biden White House decision to nominate Andre B. Mathis for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. The court, based in Cincinnati, hears appeals in federal cases from Tennessee, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"Andre Mathis is known in Memphis for his legal acumen and sound judgment. I commend President Biden for nominating this highly respected Memphis lawyer to the Sixth Circuit where I know he will serve with honor and distinction."

Mr. Mathis, a partner in the Memphis law firm Butler Snow, was previously a member and associate at the Glankler Brown law firm. He is a graduate of the University of Memphis (2003) and its Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law (2007). If confirmed by the Senate, Mr. Mathis would take the Sixth Circuit seat of Judge Bernice B. Donald of Memphis who has announced she will be taking senior status once a successor is confirmed.
