Congressman Cohen Asks Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas about White Nationalism and Domestic Violent Extremism

Asks why Memphians are directed to travel to Jackson, Tennessee, for Global Entry interviews
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today questioned Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas about the threats that domestic violent extremism, anti-government sentiment, and white supremacy pose to our homeland security. He followed up on his exchange with FBI Director Wray last week in which they discussed how rhetorical attacks on federal law enforcement are spurring violence.
In his closing minutes, Congressman Cohen then turned to a particular problem faced by his Memphis constituents: access to the Global Entry Program.
Congressman Cohen said he has been informed that residents of Memphis are being directed to travel to Jackson, Tennessee, a much smaller city, for in-person interviews when applying for the Global Entry program.
Congressman Cohen said in part:
“Why our folks have to go to Jackson to get Global Entry is hard to comprehend…Could you ask your folks – because they come under you – at Global Entry to look into why citizens of Memphis have to go to Jackson?…Could you look into that for me?”
Mayorkas assured him that he would look into the issue.
