Congressman Cohen Asks Trump Administration to take ICE Out of Memphis

Trump immigration enforcement is not going after the worst of the worst
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) went to the House floor on Monday evening and said that his community is concerned about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) misconduct and is asking the Trump administration to withdraw ICE agents from Memphis.
In his remarks, Congressman Cohen said in part:
“I had a community meeting this weekend and met with some folks in Memphis and the issues they were most interested in were immigration and ICE. They were very concerned about people from ICE, with masks on their faces, mistreating people, dragging them out of cars, stomping on their heads and arresting them. We’ve seen oftentimes they’ve done that to American citizens, and they did it in error.
“They were also concerned about the immigrants who were taken out of our community that do so much good in our community. So I’m writing a letter to Kristi Noem and reminding her that she said that they were going to get ‘the worst of the worst’ – the murderers, the rapists, the sexual offenders. She’s not doing that. They’ve decided they’re going to get anybody in the country improperly, and that’s wrong. They’re taking time going after working people in our community, and not concentrating on the ‘worst.’ I will write to the Trump administration to ask them to take ICE out of Memphis. It shouldn’t be part of the surge they’ve got to help us with our crime problem. Hispanics, immigrants, are not part of our crime problem.”
