July 30, 2020

Service at historic Ebenezer Baptist Church recalls his “incorruptible integrity”

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today attended the funeral service for the late Congressman and Civil Rights leader John Lewis at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once pastored. Congressman Cohen was invited to attend the service as part of the official Congressional delegation honoring Lewis' memory.

After the service, Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"I was honored to be a part of my friend John Lewis' home-going and proud to have served with such a saintly hero in Congress. It was inspiring to hear him eulogized by four living Presidents, Speaker Pelosi and heroes of the Civil Rights movement that defined his life. John Lewis and his ‘good trouble' will never be forgotten. May we all remember him every day and look for ‘good trouble' to get into. And may all Americans honor John Lewis and our nation by voting."
