Congressman Cohen Awarded Perfect Score from the League of Conservation Voters

February 23, 2017

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today received a perfect 100% score by the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) for their 2016 National Environmental Scorecard. Congressman Cohen's score was the highest awarded to a member of Tennessee's Congressional Delegation. It far exceeds the 20.5% average score of the entire Tennessee delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives.

"It is an honor to be recognized by the League of Conservation Voters with a perfect score for my record on the environment," said Congressman Cohen. "In a time when we have an EPA Administrator who is a climate change skeptic and a President who has advocated for abolishing the EPA, it is more important now than ever to protect our environment for future generations. 2016 was the hottest year ever recorded and we are experiencing increasingly more extreme weather events more frequently. Global warming is real! Science is real!"

The LCV's National Environmental Scorecard scored different votes in Congress to provide objective, factual information about the most important environmental legislation considered and the corresponding voting records of all members. The Scorecard represents the consensus of experts from about 20 respected environmental and conservation organizations who select the key votes on which members of Congress should be scored. LCV scores votes on the most important issues each year, including energy, global warming, public health, public lands and wildlife conservation, and spending for environmental programs.
