Congressman Cohen Calls for Hamas-Held Hostages to be Freed

January 30, 2024

In House floor speech, says “every single death is the result of Hamas”

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) went to the House floor this evening to condemn the October 7 Hamas hostage takers and call for the immediate return of the hostages. In particular, he drew attention to hostages Noa Argamani and Hersh Goldberg-Polin whose fates remain unknown.

In his remarks, Congressman Cohen said in part that he was:

“…almost without the ability to speak because of the horrors that have occurred on October 7 and the taking of 240 hostages – 110, I believe, alive – still in captivity by Hamas. It’s unthinkable. Unthinkable to normal human beings. But thinkable to Hamas…Every single death is the result of Hamas. They continue to have the same purpose: to eradicate Israel and kill all Jews. That’s Israel’s neighbor.”

Congressman Cohen also condemned politicians who have likened the criminals convicted in the insurrection of January 6, 2021, to “hostages,” saying the comparison is a “disgrace” and an insult to those being held captive by Hamas.
